Newtongrange Develoment Trust (NDT) is recruiting a Catering Manager for its latest project, the Pavilion Cafe in Newtongrange Welfare Park.This is an exciting post with the successful candidate being able to put their stamp on the Cafe. Main Tasks:
The Catering Manager will be responsible for setting up and managing the day-to-day operation of the new Pavilion Café in Newtongrange Welfare Park. Tasks will include preparation and serving of food, and leading the delivery of a community café ensuring compliance and working with volunteers.
Details:
Hours: 35hrs per week
Salary: £24,500 - £28,000 (dependent on relevant experience), plus 3% pension contribution
Qualifications: Food Hygiene Level Intermediate (SCQF 7) or Advanced (SCQF 8)
Accountable to: Pat Bowie – Chair NDT
Tasks and Accountabilities:
Manage the day to day running of the Pavilion café, including planning menus, stock control, opening sessions and volunteer management
Oversee café operations during community and group work use.
Deliver practical hospitality and barista training in a working café environment
Support people to develop skills in customer service, food preparation, barista techniques, teamwork, communication, timekeeping and basic cash handling
Working to CookSafe guidelines, ensure food safety, hygiene standards and health and safety requirements are met at all times
Supervise and support volunteers during café activity, providing clear guidance and encouragement
Work closely with other staff to support one to one mentoring, employability support and wellbeing needs
Support volunteers to work towards accredited training such as Food Hygiene
Help volunteers/trainees understand workplace expectations and routines
Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress and learning outcomes
Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
Follow all safeguarding, equality and organisational policies and procedure
Skills and experience:
Experience managing or working in a catering or hospitality setting
Experience supporting, training or supervising volunteers or people new to work
A high standard of personal hygiene
Rigorous attention to cleaning and food preparation and storage requirements
Working knowledge of CookSAFE or willingness to learn
Ability to work well as part of a team
Ability to relate to people of all ages
A good command of the English language, both verbal and written
A current Food Hygiene certificate and the ability to apply this in practice
Excellent time keeping
Reliable and trustworthy
Ability to work independently to a high standard with minimal supervision
Good organisational skills
Strong communication skills
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
Experience delivering barista training
Experience working in a community setting
Relevant catering or supervisory qualifications
Must be able to drive
